2019-202 Policies and Information

PHILOSOPHY

For four decades Betty Jo's Dance Center has been committed to providing high-quality dance classes to enhance the overall development of the child. We provide a safe environment to encourage our students to explore dance with qualified, nurturing instructors.

We believe that dance training encourages young people to develop a positive self-image as they increase awareness of their physical being. Along with improving coordination skills and developing muscular awareness, dance classes give children the confidence and freedom to express themselves through movement.

The highest educational standards are expected from Betty Jo's Dance Center faculty members. They are lifelong learners who continue to educate themselves through certification programs, teacher-training schools, conferences and other learning opportunities.

REGISTRATION

  • Class registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • A placement audition at Summer Intensives is required for registration in Company/Team classes. If you missed the Summer Intensives, please see us for placement.

  • The registration fee is due within seven days of enrollment date. Registration fee: Returning Students- $20.00 per family; New Students- $30.00 per family.

     

CLASS OBSERVATION 

  • Parent observation week for classes from 3 yrs. old to 3rd grade will be held in November, February, and April. 

  • We ask that parents remain in the waiting areas during non-observation times. You are not required to stay in the building during class. 

  • Please supervise young siblings in the common areas. 

COMMUNICATION 

  • Our primary form of communication with parents and guardians is via email. Information and reminders will be emailed to all families.

  • Please check the digital bulletin board at the front desk for important announcements and reminders that have been sent via email.  All schedules and information sent via email is also available on the Parent Page of the website.

  • There will be periodic email updates from instructors to parents regarding general progress in each of their classes. Please contact the office if you have specific issues or questions for an instructor regarding your child. Instructors are not to be contacted by parents or students through their personal email or phone.

 

DANCE ATTIRE 

  • Mommy(or Daddy) and Me & Creative Movement:  Comfortable clothing and socks or ballet slippers (no shoes please).

  • Ballet Classes: Black leotard, pink footed tights, pink ballet shoes, optional black short ballet skirt, ballet sweater optional and hair in a bun.

  • 3 & 4 yr. and K & 1st Ballet/Tap Classes: Any color of leotard, footed tights, optional skirt, pink ballet and tan tap shoes.

  • Jazz and Musical Theater: Black leotard, pink or tan tights, optional shorts, tan jazz shoes and hair in a ponytail or bun.

  • Lyrical and Contemporary: Black leotard, pink or tan tights, optional shorts, tan half-sole shoes and hair in a bun.

  • Tap: Black leotard, pink or tan tights, optional shorts, tan buckle tap shoes (black oxford tap for Companies) and hair in a pony tail or bun.

  • Hip Hop: Comfortable clothes (not jeans) and clean sneakers.

  • Kick Team: Black leotard, pink or tan tights, optional shorts, black jazz shoes and hair in a pony tail or bun.
     

Shoes, tights & leotards may be purchased from the Dance Center throughout the year. 

 

RECITAL and WINTER SHOW

  • Our performances provide an excellent opportunity for students to enhance their dance experience with a stage performance.

  • The Winter Show is typically held at the Rosemount Community Center in the month of December and will include students from 3 yrs. old to 3rd grade.  Tickets are $5.  the performances are typically held the first Friday in December. 

  • The annual recital is typically held at Eastview High School on Mother’s Day weekend 2019. 

  • All seating is reserved and prices are $17.00 for children and adults.

  • Tickets are purchased online via www.tututix.com.

  • You will be able to select your seats, print your tickets and pay online.

  • You will bring the printed tickets to the recital show.

  • Costume fee: $75.00 per enrolled class.

  • Costume fees are due by December 10, 2019.

  • You must submit a written notification to the office before November 1, 2019 if your child will NOT be dancing in the recital and you do not want a costume order to be placed for your child.

  • Costumes are not refundable or returnable.

  • Costumes do not arrive tailor-made and there may be some alterations or assembly to ensure proper fit. These alterations will be the responsibility of parents/guardians.

  • 2019-2020 Season dancers will receive one free recital t-shirt.  Dancers are encouraged to wear the recital shirt for the recital finale.

  • DVD’s of our recital will be available for purchase at a cost of $45.00. They are ready for pick-up at our Early Registration in June.
